A lot of people have contacted RMS concerned about loss of street trees and green space on council-owned land, so I though I’d offer some advice here.
Most councils have a webpage about street trees, where you can check their tree planting policies or make a ‘tree planting request’. They can then inform you if there is any good reason why trees can’t be planted on your street. Good examples include Waltham Forest: https://walthamforest.gov.uk/content/trees and Lewisham https://lewisham.gov.uk/myservices/environment/trees/how-to-get-new-trees-planted
If trees could be planted but your council cannot fund this, there are some useful resources here to help you organise this independently: https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/protecting-trees-and-woods/street-trees/

Has anyone had direct experience of this issue or got further advice?
